Registering for Lacrosse

Box Lacrosse

All Players whether new to lacrosse or returning for another year of fun are welcome to register for the Red Deer Lacrosse Association Lacrosse programs. Our lacrosse program is designed to allow new players the opportunity to start out in a fundamentally based program, while also allowing returning players the ability to improve their skills.  Box lacrosse requires full equipment.

Our evaluations start early March, starting with our older divisions continuing to our younger divisions.  Teams are created after evaluations to ensure parity.  Our season continues to mid to late June depending on the playoff schedule.  All teams will be allocated a minimum of 1 practice a week at various facilities through out the City.  This year we are unsure of the status of the GH Dawe Expansion and Kinex Arenas, we are not sure how this will impact our practice and game schedules.  Please be prepared to practice Monday-Thursday, we will do our best to ensure scheduling is a consistent day and time, but appreciate your understanding as we navigate limited access this season.

RDLA teams participate in the Central Alberta Lacrosse League. League play will commence Mid-April and continue until Mid-June with games being played on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. U6 and U8 groups typically play on weekends.  RDLA hosts the Tradition Lives Lacrosse Tournament on the May long weekend, this is one of the longest running tournaments in Canadian Lacrosse history.  All attending teams U9-U17 will be expected to fill volunteer roles that weekend, up to 4 hours per player.  The Alberta Lacrosse Association has change the Provincial team format this season, the winner of our league will be expected to represent our league in Provincials the second weekend in July.

"A" Teams - This season RDLA will be having tryouts for U17, U16 and U13 divisions, tryout fee $50.  All players from CALL are welcome. "A" team tryouts will start beginning of February. Please visit "A" Team page for more information.

**Please note the above is subject to change without notice.

Field Lacrosse

The 2023 Field Season will be a return to normal year that will start after the Canada Long weekend and continue into early September.  All league scheduled games will be played in Red Deer as the central location for all of our clubs across the province.

Our summer lacrosse program is offered to boys and girls of all ages and is designed to introduce children to the game of lacrosse regardless of experience, as well as assist those more advanced players in refining their skills in a positive, energetic and fun environment.

During a typical season registration opens in early June with a season that runs in July and August.  Registration fees includes all regular season games and 1 practice per week. Additional practices are conditional upon field availability and your particular coach. Regular season consist of 3-4 Schedule Game Play Weekend Dates and a Provincial event, all of which are optional.

Competing Teams to play can include Lacombe, Calgary, Edmonton and Airdrie. Select weekends may also include teams from Cranbrook, BC.

Field lacrosse for boys requires full equipment the same as box lacrosse, with the exception of cleats instead of running shoes.

Field lacrosse for girls is Non-Contact throughout all divisions and requires only eye goggles as recommended, cleats instead of running shoes, and a ladies field lacrosse stick, which does differ substantially from box lacrosse sticks.
